Description: Estrone sulfate, also known as E1S, E1-S, E1SO4 and estrone 3-sulfate, is a natural, endogenous steroid and an estrogen ester and conjugate. Estrone sulfate is the most abundant circulating estrogen and it has the potential to be used as a biomarker in certain conditions where estimation of low levels of estrogen or changes in relative levels of estrogens are important. E1-S showed lower levels in malignant tissues of breast cancer and endometrial cancer. Increased sulfatase activity in the malignant tissue hydrolyzes E1-S to E1, which may develop the tumors.
